Carpet Cleaning and the Qualification Process.

By Kal Gutman

It seems as though carpet maintenance and carpet cleaning is taken lightly in terms of the amount of care carpets receive these days.

How are they being looked after? With careful thought you can decide on who and what equipment to use.

Different cleaners give different results and so it is important to know who can do the job right.

Most consumers are not well versed in the carpet maintenance field and are clueless on having an intelligent conversation about carpet maintenance procedures and this is an opportunity to learn from different professionals on the aspects of quality carpet maintenance. Time to ask questions from the pros.

Let's talk about Janitors. How are janitors supposed to specialize in one particular thing when they have to mop and maintain floors, wax and polish them, vacuum carpets and follow maintenance procedures with the regular cleaning of commercial carpets and all the other cleaning maintenance including bathrooms and the sheer enormity of the of the scope of work that it is hard to focus on spotless day in and day out.

House cleaners are usually doing similar jobs as janitors accept on a smaller scale and therefore can concentrate on more quality cleaning however the job takes a lot of different cleaning processes again and I haven't met a house cleaner that understands the carpet industry yet.

The education that carpet cleaners receive is a crash certification course of almost two days of intensive carpet cleaning theory which helps them become more educated in the carpet cleaning process, but there is still more to learn!

Steam cleaning is always receiving some competition from new carpet cleaning systems, but is still the best all-round superior quality cleaning that one can buy.

To keep the carpets looking squeaky clean, using the steam cleaning hot water extraction system is the way to go because of the amount of soils and stains that can be removed with this process leaving the carpets fresh and clean.

Removing the embedded dirt deep into the fibers will help preserve the carpet and the agitation of the fibers help also to lift the fibers as if coming the fibers back to health and removing the embedded dirt.

Truck mount units are quick to setup for the cleaning technicians and operate with the engine idling to produce power to the heating coils to heat up the water and is not environmentally friendly but seems to be the preferred method for most carpet cleaning companies.

If carpet cleaners would take the time to learn the carpet installation trade they may have an appreciation of how to take the time and care to clean carpets and one would know what to expect after a carpet was cleaned or what to look for before something bad happens to the carpet. This takes experience!

Not all carpet cleaners are created equal but a few do take the time to include an education process to deliver the best cleaning that they can do. Some cleaners place an importance on education but only a few.

Which means what are you paying for and why would one cleaner be long gone while the other cleaner would be still on the job cleaning your carpets. It is obvious that there is no standard out there even with certification.

What type of training has the carpet cleaner had and how long have they been cleaning carpets. If they have an accreditation of some sort always helps.

Clean carpets last forever so they better be clean.
