Swiss Airlines

The new flag carrier of Switzerland is Swiss International Airlines Limited, also known as Swiss, it is now the major airline of Switzerland, its organization is due to the problems encountered by the previous flag carrier of Switzerland.It is now offering flights to most of the continents all over the world.

September 11 attacks have forced Swiss airlines to merge itself into other airlines. As a result Lufthansa bought a minority stake in Swiss in 2005 and the process was completed in 2007. even upto 2008 swiss was just half of its original sie but was able to carry as same passengers as it was carrying in 2002

Swiss is a member of the Star Alliance and has codeshare agreements with several other airlines, expanding its flight offerings. Swiss now flies to destinations in Cameroon, Egypt, Kenya, Libya, Morocco, South Africa, Tanzania, China, Japan, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Israel, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, UK, Canada Mexico, US, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Brazil, and Chile.

Swiss operates a fleet of 77 aircraft. Twenty of those are operated by Swiss subsidiary Swiss European Airlines. Swiss offers several choices for check-in, including via the web or phone. For passengers flying out of Switzerland, Swiss check-in is available at more than 50 train stations. Swiss offers three cabin classes, Swiss First, Swiss Business and Swiss Economy.

In Swiss first, separate check-in counters save customer's times. While waiting for flights, special lounges featuring ottomans and fold-away tables for waiting customers. Gourment a la carte meals are served, and on long-haul flights, Swiss specialties are available. Airbus A330 flights even hae telephone and network connections available for customer convenience.

Swiss accommodates business travelers in style with a business class check-in, priority boarding and access to departure lounges. Telephones, network connections and messaging services are available on certain planes.

All classes on the Airbus A340 and Airbus A330 have access to in-flight entertainment including films and television on demand as well as music and games.

The frequent flyer program of of Swiss is Miles and More. It is possible for the customers to redeem miles on Swiss flights as also on othe Star Alliance partners and twenty othe affiliate airlines. Miles can also be earned or made use of by partner hotels, car hire companies and credit card purchases.

Because Swiss Air is committed to reducing it's negative environmental impact, they have reduced fuel consumption to one of the lowest industry levels. They have reduced CO2 emission which resulted in cost savings. Swiss flies below maximum speed and retracts flaps earlier. An automatic altitude and airspeed adjustment allows them to fly at optimal levels depending on the plane's weight along with wind and temperature factors.
