Some Children Require Different Parenting Skills

By Carol Ann

Unfortunately, there is no manual that teaches parenting. If there was one, the author would likely get rich very quick, because all parents face challenges at one time or another. It is just a fact of life, and it never ceases to amaze.

Truth be told, there are plenty of parenting books available today, and they are filled with excellent tips and advice. They teach techniques from A to Z, and yet they don't seem to grasp that all answers don't apply to all children. The parent must determine which children respond to which parenting techniques. Even if there are several children in the same household, certain things just won't work for all of them.

This is why I make the suggestion that people read all the information that they can about parenting. The books, the websites, and the online chat and blogs of other parents, and then take what you can use and adapt it to your own life and children. There are some really great things that can be learned by the experts, but they also need to be adapted in many cases to different children and their personalities.

Don't be afraid to ask questions if you happen to have a tough parenting situation going on. Use the internet and ask other parents how they have handled the same situation. Sometimes the advice they provide is better than what the experts say, and the reason that's true is because the parents are dealing with these issues each and every day. Whether illness, school problems, or unruliness, parents have to wear a lot of hats, and they are usually happy to share their experiences and techniques.

There are certainly times when parenting struggles seem to be overwhelming, causing you to want to give up. But you can't and you know it. Use the resources available at your fingertips. There is a plethora of information and parenting techniques out there, so don't be afraid to ask for help, because every parent has been there before.
