Why Not Make Your Own Stamps?

By Gabriel

Custom ink stamp creation is a fun as well as popular activity. It allows you to make beautiful prints on paper in your own styles and designs. In addition, designing custom stamps saves both time as well as money. You can also use paint instead of ink. Many people even make use of fabric paint. To make custom ink stamps you need paint or ink, thin foam, scissors or sharp razor blade knife, transparent tape or glue, pencil or a marker and stamp handle.

Types of Ink Stamps

There are various types of ink stamps available such as permanent, heat-set, pigment, alcohol, dye inks, watercolor and fabric inks. The most essential ink stamps are dye inks or pigment inks, as they are commonly used. Pigment inks are of high quality and are water based. These inks are thick and are available in different colors. Pigment inks are long resisting and do not fade quickly. Many people choose pigment ink stamps.

First, collect all the necessary material. Use the thin foam and seize it on the back of the stamp handle. Thin foam is also essential for making ink stamps. To make a stamp handle, you can use a piece of plastic or a piece of wood and place it accordingly.

Select the design as per your preference. You can choose round shape, rectangular shape or square shape stamp designs. You can also sketch a design and place it on the thin foam accordingly. The size of the stamp depends on the shape you choose. It is good to create a simple stamp.

You can write your full name or initials and proper address on the ink stamp. However, make it simple and brief. Practice making different kinds of stamp patterns. Draw the pattern that you prefer with the help of a thin marker or pencil. Draw it slightly darker, so that it can be easily visible while cutting.

At the time of cutting, use a thin and sharp razor blade knife. Cut the pattern and place it on the thin foam. While cutting down the design, be careful and cautious. You can place plenty of newspapers or magazines below your stamp, so that you cut it properly.

After cutting, clean the edges and brush them off properly. Cut only the designed pattern and make sure you cut the pattern in a clean manner. To handle it conveniently, attach the back of the foam to the base. When you finish with cutting pattern on the thin foam, make a simple design and paste it to the stamp handle.

You can make simple patterns such as hearts, smiley or star. After pasting the pattern, dry it for sometime before using the stamp.
